Our recommended after-care regime:

  1. Remove the wrapping from your tattoo about 1.5 to 2 hours after getting tattooed.
  2. Wash your hands with Antibacterial Soap.
  3. The first time you wash your tattoo, you will see that a layer of gooey plasma may have accumulated under the cling wrap – this is normal. Firmly wash off all this gooey substance with your hand (DO NOT use a cloth or exfoliator).
  4. Leave the tattoo to AIR DRY for about 15 minutes.
  5. Avoid swimming for the first 2 weeks of healing.
  6. Apply a THIN layer of Bepanthan or Balm aftercare and ensure the butter is absorbed into the skin allowing it to breathe.
  7. Repeat this procedure 3 times a day for the next 4 days.
  8. Always remember to wash your hands before washing your tattoo.
  9. DO NOT share after care products with anyone. Cross contamination can cause infection and spread disease.

General care

  1. Keep moisturized and use SPF when going into the sun. DO NOT use SPF whilst the tattoo is still healing. Rather just keep the tattoo out of the sun.
  2. It is OK to take a bath or shower whilst healing but DO NOT SOAK the tattoo in water.
  3. It is advisable NOT to do any sports/ strenuous activity the day after your tattoo.
  4. When exercising during the healing period, make sure to give your tattoo a good wash after any exercise.
  5. IN THE GYM – make sure your tattoo does not come into contact with sweaty benches or machinery.
  6. You can apply an Opsite Flexigrid Plaster if you intend doing anything out of the ordinary, like extreme sports or contact sports, during the healing period. This is available at pharmacies, consult a pharmacist for application.
  7. Please do not use Zambuk or tea tree oil on a healing tattoo.

View all the portfolios and you know which artist you prefer. Base this on their style and execution as all of our artists specialise in different styles. You can choose to request a consult with that artist and your enquiry will go to the correct booking agent. If you are unsure, email hello@ferryman.co.za and we will suggest an artist for you :

Consultations

Consultations are free of charge and usually last no longer than 30 minutes. This is a dedicated space for you and the artist to brainstorm your ideas – so bring along references and inspiration. Here we can also see how long the tattoo will take and give you an estimated costing. Please note that these are an estimate. Factors such as detail, design changes and how you sit for your tattoo on the day WILL affect how long the tattoo takes and this will shorten or lengthen your tattoo time and thus your cost.

Deposits

We then make a booking for you with the artist and charge a 50% deposit or a R2000 deposit (for full days) to secure your booking, and to get the design process underway. This deposit will be deducted off the final cost of your tattoo. In essence, if you get the tattoo done with us – your design is free. If however, you change your mind about what you want to get done – a design fee will apply, and will be deducted off your deposit refund.

A deposit must be paid within 24 hours of making your booking or your booking will automatically be released.

If you fail to postpone or cancel your appointment within 48 hours of your booking (I.E two WORKING days), you will unfortunately forfeit your deposit.

Design

If previously discussed, the artist will then design a line drawing or mock up. The artist will prep a design or mock up for the day of your booking based on what you have discussed at the consultation. Any small changes will be done on the morning of your tattoo with your artist. After many years of trial and error, we have found that changes with the client face to face is quicker and more efficient.

In the instance that your artist sends out a design. A line drawing or mock up is a ROUGH layout of the idea or composition of your tattoo. We usually offer 2 rounds of changes on the design. Should your tattoo require a design, designs are usually done a day or two prior to your tattoo, giving you and the artist time to make changes if need be.

Please note. We do NOT copy other tattoos. This is considered as plagiarism in our studio and we will not under any circumstance consider this.

If you change your mind about the tattoo and want something else designed – a new deposit will apply. Certain pieces will not require design work prior to the time, especially in instances where the artist will be executing a realism piece or the piece will be drawn directly on to the skin. This should be outlined in the consult.
If you have booked a full day and you change your mind to a substantially smaller or quicker piece, you will be charged 50% of the full day booked.

Don’t drink alcohol the night before.

Alcohol thins the blood – heavy bleeding makes it harder for the artist to work, harder for the ink to stay in, and harder for you to heal. Try your best to stay away from any unnecessary medication that thins the blood before your session (unless of course you have a medical condition)

Eat a healthy hearty meal before the time.

Not eating can result in dizziness and a lot more discomfort than usual, occasionally even causing you to pass out or experience severe nausea. During full day sittings typically both artist and client will break for lunch to replenish the reserves.

Furthermore – come relax. Some people like to have something to listen to & read or keep themselves busy with where possible.

We offer one round of free touch ups for your tattoo, should your tattoo require it. You have 6 months from the date of your tattoo for your touch up – so make sure you book well in advance.

You DO however, need to wait at least 1 month for the tattoo to settle, before you will know whether you need a touch up. If you are not sure then – you are more than welcome to pop in so we can have a look.

No free touch ups will be done on hand and feet tattoos. These kinds of tattoos are notorious for the ink pulling out and sadly there are no guarantees that these will last.

You can pay using cash, card or voucher. Unfortunately American Express and Diners Club are not accepted.
